Welcome to PvP on Materia DC!

Maintained by Spiders Georg (Ravana)

PvP is a fun side of FFXIV that comes with achievements, mounts, EXP, tomes and more!As a smaller data centre with shorter windows for peak PvP hours, and because Frontline and Rival Wings are great ways of getting Mogtomes during event periods, we want to encourage players new and old to queue up and help keep it popping for longer. This site is to give general summaries of the current PvP modes and queue times for Materia for easy linking. We encourage any interested to join the Materia Wolves' Den discord which accommodates all PvP game modes for OCE.

Upcoming Events:

Weekly Ranked CC!

With Patch 7.2 Season 14 of Ranked Crystalline Conflict has started!
For details on the latest PvP changes see the 7.2 Patch Notes and PvP Job Guide.
We will once again be trying to coordinate ranked pops for OCE over at the Materia Wolves' Den discord, come join us if you like!
We will be using a bot and relevant roles set up there to help gauge numbers/interest in queuing ranked on any given day for Materia DC.

Current schedule:

Trying for daily pops from 8PM AEST.
Once daily interest dies down, try every FRI and SAT from 8PM AEST.
Try and stay in queue for at least 30min, then can try again at around 9:30PM AEST if there is no luck for your bracket.

The Materia Wolves' Den occasionally hosts themed sync events, particularly for Frontline.
More coming soon!

General tips for beginners

Where do I start?

See this wiki page for details on how to unlock everything. Regardless of what mode you're looking at playing, start by going to Wolves' Den Pier and organising your hotbars. These hotbars and skills are independent to your normal PvE stuff so don't worry about messing anything up, but you'll have to re-add a bunch of things.

  • Go Character → PvP Profile (or just /pvpprofile) → Job to find your PvP skills if your current skills are greyed out.

  • Familiarise yourself with these skills as best you can - there are plenty of PvP job guides online, but of course it comes down to practice.

  • Re-add your gearsets to a hotbar somewhere for easy swapping.

  • Don't forget to add your mount back to its usual spot.

Frontline and Rival Wings allow you to change classes inside the instance provided you are inside the base/starting area. To return to the starting area quickly (without just dying) you can use Return. Crystalline Conflict does not allow class changes.
For levelling (namely for Frontline as it gives the most EXP), the trick is to queue as the class you want to level (any lv30+ class with a soul stone equipped) and swap once inside.
Gear does not matter at all in all PvP modes and you can dress and look stupid. Use this information wisely.

Important features & skills

  • Sprint: is different in PvP - it is toggled on/off with no long cooldown or limited duration, but falls off whenever you use a skill. Good practice is to get into the habit of toggling it again quickly to keep moving and allow quick escapes

  • Recuperate: is your 'quick heal' skill that uses MP. While a healer player may be able to help you out, in PvP your HP is usually your own responsibility.

  • Standard-issue Elixir: is your 'full heal' skill, or rather, cast - it has a long cast bar that restores you to full HP and MP, but will be interrupted if you are hit. It is best to use out of range of enemies.

  • Guard: is a shield that reduces damage by 90% and gives immunity to most debuffs. Once toggled, it stays up for 4 seconds and you can move very slowly with it up. Re-using it or using a skill will cancel it. Naturally for when you're in danger, but particularly good once you start recognising incoming enemy bursts and can prepare for it.

  • Purify: your instant Esuna that dispels most debuffs and grants you a 5 second immunity to most debuffs.

  • Limit Break: unlike PvE everyone gets their own individual Limit Break bar that fills over time that they can use as they like (not shared with the party). These LBs are unique to the job you are playing - look for the skill with the yellow icon in the top right corner. Depending on the effect and the PvP mode, it may be worth saving your LB for a group burst or a similar opportunity.

  • Chat: party & alliance chat can be used normally in Frontline and Rival Wings. Shout, yell & say chat also work and will not be seen by the enemy teams. In Crystalline Conflict, all chats are disabled, only allowing quick chat buttons to the party (see PvP Profile → Quick Chat).

  • Mounts: can be used in Frontline and Rival Wings and are recommended to keep up with the team. However, be aware that being hit while mounted auto-dismounts you and prevents re-mounting for 5 seconds.

  • Return: can be used as normal freely in PvP and is handy if you forgot to/want to swap classes, or to quickly get back to the base.

Queue times

Frontline

Daily from around
4:30PM ~ 7:00PM AEST
(after recent DST changes)

These are rough estimates / suggested windows only - it may pop before and after these times!
If the mode is The Fields of Glory (Shatter), this is considered the least popular mode and may die even sooner.
Queue when you like, but in favour of those coming home from work, suffering from different timezones, dinner aggro etc., please consider helping keep the queue alive later so more players can get some matches in.
'Queue bodies' are appreciated by helping the queue pop and withdrawing/leaving if not able to play.
Why are the wait times between games so long?
Expect each match to take roughly 12-15 minutes with a max of 20 min.
Because there is usually only enough people queued for one match at a time (maybe two if lucky), it is highly suggested to leave the match before the scoreboard appears if you want to ensure getting into the next one immediately. This means opening the duty menu and leaving the moment a team has won, missing out on seeing your KDA or giving commends unfortunately. Otherwise, ensure you have Join Party in Progress enabled when queueing and you may be able to catch any empty spots in the next match.
It is also likely for there to be enough people queueing for more than one match/lobby to be on at once, sometimes the previous match still hasn't finished. Don't give up until the average queue time has hit 21 min+ at least!

Rival Wings (Hidden Gorge)

Generally limited to Mogtome event periods - daily
8:00PM ~ 11:00PM AEST

This PvP mode is generally limited to the Mogtomes event.
Pops and end times can be inconsistent. It could easily not pop at all for the night or go well past the above hours.
It is suggested to queue up at the above times and if there is no pop by within 30min-1hr the latest it is unlikely to pop that night.
If it does start popping, more people will queue up, so please encourage others to be queue bodies even if they withdraw.
While appreciated to try help pop it daily, FRI / SAT / SUN can be considered the 'official' days to try and try get it popping.
The Materia Wolves' Den discord server may coordinate future events for this and is recommended to join for more information.
Why are the wait times between games so long?
Expect each match to take roughly 10-15 minutes. Maybe less if its slaughter.
While the duty is smaller and it is more likely for several matches to be on at once, like Frontline it is highly suggested to leave the match before the scoreboard appears if you want to ensure getting into the next one immediately. This means opening the duty menu and leaving the moment a team has won, missing out on seeing your KDA or giving commends unfortunately. Otherwise, ensure you have Join Party in Progress enabled when queueing and you may be able to catch any empty spots in the next match.

Crystalline Conflict

Casual matches: any time, generally 7PM AEST onwards til late
Ranked matches: Trying for daily pops from 8PM AEST then Fridays & Saturdays once interest dies down

The Materia Wolves' Den discord server coordinates these events, particularly for ranked CC and is recommended to join for more information.
Ranked is unlikely to pop outside of these times without prior organisation & the further we get into the PvP Season.

Info for Voyagers!

Hello and welcome to OCE!
In terms of PvP, Frontline on OCE can be considered closest to the JP DC playstyle.
Please keep any differences in mind when coming to play with us!

  • Chain / bind markers are generally reserved for potential enemy commanders / burst engagers to help keep track of them!

  • Ally DRK are usually not marked, unless actively commanding / leading engages / bursts.

  • We are generally supportive of commander macros and would like to keep it this way! If sound macros bother you, consider toggling /systemsounds!

  • Shape markers are used to mark ally commanders and / or burst target - the marker used depends on the preference of the commander.
